Foreward: How I came About The Theory / Basement Shitter
Hello, And welcome to version two of the Lateralus Story Theory. Here we will go into greater detail than version one, clear up some grey area, and hopefully clear up some grey area that version one may have left you with. First off, a key to undertsanding the theory is watching teh SCHISM VIDEO. If you havent already, do so now. Hell, BUy teh DVD single, so you can get th ewonderful remix Brian Lustmord did of Schism.
Now, On to how I made the revalation. It was the middle of summer. correct me if im wrong, mere days before I asked Natalie out [OMG HI I LOVE YOU!] and it was about 3 am. My Tool obsession was beginning to flare up, so i decided to watch the video for Mantra/Schism. So I did. All the while, I contemplated the meaning of schism [look it up, im not telling you] and watched the video. Note that in the end, the two "Schism Aliens" for lack of a better term, END the schism between each other and become one.

Chapter 1: The Grudge
The Grudge is not only a stellar song, nor is it a stellar first track, it is teh offocial beginning of teh story, a story of two people. Two People who, at this point, dislike each other, even beGRUDGE each other.

Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity.
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate.
Desperate to control all and everything.
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.

The grudge they hold seesm to be enjoyed, seeing as it is worn "like a crown." They have made up their minds as to what they will put up with (Calculate what we will or will not tolerate.) and such closed mindedness leads moreso into teh grudge, feeding itself. The third line in the opening stanza represenst how they arent doing as the other wants them to do, so they are desperate to control teh other, and to change their ways.

Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down.
Justify denials and grip 'em to the lonesome end.
Saturn ascends, comes round again.
Saturn ascends, the one, the ten. Ignorant to the damage done.

They Clutch their gudge, because its all they have, becuse they have no one else. The glimmer of hope (justified denials) is crushed by the ignorant "clutch[ing]... to the lonesome end." Saturn ascending is the mythological belief that every time saturn makes a rotation since your birth [every 27 years] you change, and that the seas of change may come ashore soon. "The one, The ten" refers to the zodaic, and the numbering, One being Aeries and 10 being capricorn. In mythology, Capricorn is known to respond more to saturns call, whereas Aeries is stubborn and known to hold a GRUDGE.

Give away the stone.

Let the oceans take and transmutate this cold and fated anchor.
Give away the stone.
Let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold.
Let go.

Give Away the [corner]stone. The stone is teh physical embodiment of teh grudge, and one of them, most likely the capricorn, under Saturns will, has decided to Let go of his/her grugde. He will let the seas of change take the stone, and erode it, possibly turing the clumsy ugly lead [hatred]to gold[friendship].

Chapter 2: Eon Blue Aopcalypse
Commonly known as the bridge between The Grudge and The Paitent, it holds no meaning in my theory, simply beacues it has no lyrical content for analysis.

Chapter 3: The Paitent
At this point in the story, the two people begin to realise that there must be some deeper reason for them staying together. The relationship is still not 100% positive, but its looking like the terms may change.

A groan of tedium escapes me,
Startling the fearful.
Is this a test? It has to be,
Otherwise I can't go on.
Draining patience, drain vitality.
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old.

The relationship is growing tedious, and they realise that teh overwhelming displeaseure has to be a test , remisicent of the Book of Job in the Bible [for those who are unsure, the Book of Job outlined the happeings of Job, who was tormented by God, to prove to Satan that Jobs faith is unwavering, at one point in the book, Job utters "Is this a Test? It has to be. O Merciful Lord. This has to be a test." Knowing your Bible pays off....even if you're buddhist...] If its not a test of their will, they will decide that this is futile and while the outcome of such a course of events is unsure, it is assumed to be the undesirable route. They are "draining [each others] paitence [and] ... vitality," and the line afterwards hints that one or both of them had done something hurtful/parasitic to the other.

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here.

Wait it out,
Gonna wait it out,
Be patient (wait it out)

However unpleasant the relationship may be it is known that there MAY be some glimmer of a positive ending in all of this, so they decide to "Wait it Out ... Be Paitent." They know that the rewards are greater than the price paid now.

If there were no rewards to reap,
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
Gonna wait it out.

At this point its now clearly known that there is some positive in teh relationship, that there is a common goal they can acheive by each other [rewards to reap], however unpleasant it may be [this tedious path I've chosen here], they know that the end justify the means.

And I still may ... (sigh) ... I still may.

Be patient.
I must keep reminding myself of this.

That first line, [And I still may ... (sigh) ... I still May] shows that there is still hesitation in their minds, but it is becoming more clear that the best path is to stay together. The last 2 lines almost speak for themselves.

Chapter 4: Mantra
Mantra, like Eon Blue Aopcalypse has no lyrical content, but is viewed as an intro to Schism one of the two most pivitol chapters in the Story. Take this chance to find on youtube teh music video for Schism, and watch it once before you read the next chapter, and again after you read it.

Chapter 5: Schism
The schism that has been ongoing since The Grudge, is looking like it may end.

I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering. Fundamental differing.
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us

The pieces, being the two of them, are now realised to be co-operative. Through Their differences [fundamental differing, intention juxtaposed] they now are positive that they canbe one cohesive being, wether it be literally, or metaphorically [going out]. Disintegrating refres to the grudge, which is now seemingly gone, and the 'light that fueled the fire [of hate]" has now been extinguished.

No fault, none to blame it doesn't mean I don't desire to
Point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over.

The temple, symbolic of the grudge, has been destroyed. They no longer "Point the finger, blame the other," becuase theres "no fault, none to blame."

This chapter is really highlited by the video, which at the climax sees the two individuals fuse into one being, and therein they end the Schism....Nice title, Isn't it?

Chapter 6/7: Parabol/a
I group these two tracks together,, because despite them being two tracks, they are still one song, and it is titled Parabola [therin, Parabol exists only as a technicality]. The two people, by ending teh schism, have found [for lack of a better term] God. Its not REALLY god, but the term will suffice.

We barely remember what came before this precious moment,
Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside...
This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in
This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.

The realise that their life is so much better now that they are one [physically or metaphorically] and that through each other they realise that life is an illusion, that we inside are all one, part of a unity concious [and people wonder why Unitarian Conciousness Buddhists like me love this ablum so much] and that we are all god. being that we/god is all that is real, LIFE then becomes the holy gift to the masses, not an afterlife, because there is no afterlife, because that is the real life [confused yet?]. The illusion/spiritual life is the one we live on earth.

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

No one is alone in this world, so long as you can tap into your collective unconcious [Bill Hicks popularized this term] Life is just an illusion, a warm up for the real thing, the eternity with god/collective conciousness.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion.

I think that sums up the song and the chapter pretty well.

Foreward to chapter 8: Fuck the Fibbionacci.
All of those "Holy Gift"ers are going crazy . Most of them all have struggled to find a way to incorperate Dannys ever changing time signatures into their ever changing algebra bullshit. What they fail to realise is that this piece of music was made to be listened to as it is, not rearranged, sped up, slowed soen, or even to some stupid algebra equation. With the help of Mr. Vincenzo Barone i have found a perfect meaning for Ticks and Leeches.

Chapter 8: Ticks & Leeches
Ticks and leeches is teh second pivitol chapter in the lateralus theory, because the two people are killed. Who kills them is never explained, but that they die is essential to the story.

Suck me dry.
My blood is bruised and borrowed. You thieving bastards.
You have turned my blood cold and bitter,
beat my compassion black and blue.

Hope this is what you wanted.
Hope this is what you had in mind.
Cuz this is what you're getting.
I hope you're choking. I hope you choke on this.

Whoever it was, he/she has killed them, and sucked teh life blood out of them. In an almost dying words sense, the second block of text is in existance, in almost a sarcastic sense. The song dosent get much deeper or symbolic, its that simple. They Die. On to......

chapter 9: Lateralus
Lateralus describes the crossing of the conciousness from the physical life, into the afterlife. Being reborn from physical being, to a part of god.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.

the sequence of colors is the order that human infants develop the ability to see colors, black, white, red then yellow. They now see that they are eternal being, now in the afterlife.

Chapter 10: Disposition
Even If it IS my favorite tool song, it hold very little meaning in my Story theory, mainly because it is part of the 23 minute behemoth that is Disposition/Reflection/Triad.

Chapter 11: Triad

I have come curiously close to the end, down
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole,
Defeated, I concede and
Move closer
I may find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness
How pitiful

It's calling me...

they have come to the end [death], due to the death in Ticks & Leeches. he is defeated, he concedes, and moves closer to the unity concioussness. The metaphor of emptiness is used in a similar method as the zero=infinity metaphor is used. I will break down the last hunk of text, describing the transformation into the spiritual life.

So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
[they have no individual though, being that they are noe part of a larger collective]
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,
[leave behind the life we all know, the harsh, unforgiving word we are born into and die in]
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
[unity conciousness]
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
[if the unity conciousness is all there is, then nothing is impossible, because impossibility dosen't exist]
Just let the light touch you
And let the words spill through
And let them pass right through
Bringing out our hope and reason ...
before we pine away.
[let it be known that the divinity is availble to all, and that when you become part of it, you will bask in the eternal bliss]

Chapter 12: Triad
Well, Triad has no words [see a trend?] but since this is a Big Fat Blogg post, id best not break Kayfabe......

I love you Natalie...

Chapter 13: Faaip De Oiad
The ONLY thing I will say is that "Faaip De Oiad" is enochian for "Voice Of God." Here is where YOU draw your conclusions.

Chapter 14: Closing Remarks, Contact Info, Credits, Use, and Random Shit.
As you may all know by now, i am a Tool dork. I am in posession of upwards of 14 full live bootlegs, and I don't think its healthy. I certainly hope that this has inspired you to do something creative, and to create something beautiful, or to at least have wild sex.
